Hypothesis networks map major hypotheses. They structure and provide an overview of existing theory. Through the hierarchy-of-hypotheses approach ([https://doi.org/10.3897/neobiota.14.3435 <u>Jeschke et al. 2012</u>], [https://doi.org/10.1007/s13280-012-0379-x <u>Heger et al. 2013</u>], [https://doi.org/10.1093/biosci/biaa130 <u>Heger et al. 2021</u>]), hypothesis networks can be hierarchically structured and connected to empirical studies and data.
